Candidate Profile:

The Technical Systems Trainee will be expected to acquire and demonstrate the necessary skills to effectively contribute to a technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install work area outlets for various setups, ensuring proper termination of CAT 5E and 6 jacks, and correct mounting of faceplates and surface mount boxes in accordance with company standards.
  • Construct and install communication closets, including mounting backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware. Ensure grounding for racks and equipment as needed.
  • Conduct testing procedures such as continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, utilizing volt-ohmmeters, and troubleshooting issues like opens, shorts, and transposed pairs.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits effectively.
  • Oversee crew performance, providing necessary training and coordinating personnel to meet project timelines.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and punctually, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Adhere to and engage in all company, client, and industry quality and safety standards.
  • Communicate any project delays or issues to the lead technician promptly.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to develop strategies for minimizing project costs and maintaining budget compliance.
  • Install low voltage pathways and pull communications, security, and DAS cabling.
  • Terminate, certify, and troubleshoot cabling systems.
  • Install security and communication devices and low voltage control panels.
  • Configure and initiate security systems.
  • Install door hardware and related components.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals.
  • Willingness to travel as required for project needs.

Education and Skills:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Enrollment in the NNMIEC special systems apprenticeship program is necessary, which includes 160 hours of classroom instruction annually over three years.
  • Proficiency with required tools as outlined in the hand tool list.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents.
  • Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Work Environment:

This position typically operates in both an indoor office and construction environment. The noise level is generally moderate. The role requires regular sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands, along with frequent standing and walking. Lifting and moving of weights up to 50 pounds is common, as is climbing ladders up to 20 feet and working in confined spaces. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Travel Requirements:

Travel may be necessary for this role, requiring reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
