Position Overview
The Space Mission Engineering Program Office (SMEPO) is on the lookout for a seasoned expert in remote sensing and space domain awareness (SDA) to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing national security in the space sector. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of remote sensing technologies and SDA methodologies, experience with relevant modeling tools, and a proven track record of engaging with the SDA community.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on national security through the execution of critical space missions.
On a typical day, your responsibilities may include:
- Conducting modeling and simulation of remote sensing and SDA systems to guide government strategies and procurement.
- Leading cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Delivering results within established timelines and budgets.
- Building and maintaining relationships with Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community (IC) stakeholders.
- Transforming complex technical data into actionable insights.
- Representing Sandia within the SDA sector.
- Collaborating across various divisions to harness a wide range of expertise.
- Developing innovative solutions to complex challenges.
- Responding to urgent customer needs with timely results.
- Collaborating with senior management to shape SMEPO strategies.
- Assisting in business development efforts with existing and prospective clients.
- Promoting a culture of innovation within the department.
- Mentoring junior team members.
- Working autonomously with minimal supervision.
$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary is estimated and will be finalized based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, such as:
- An Associate's degree with nine years of relevant experience; or
- A High School Diploma with thirteen years of relevant experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance with SCI access.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- A graduate degree in Engineering or a closely related field with a significant independent research component.
- An active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance.
- Experience collaborating with National Security Enterprise laboratories.
- Background in engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
- Active SCI clearance.
- Expertise in space situational awareness.
- Experience with satellite payloads and aerospace initiatives.
- Knowledge of image processing algorithm development.
- Experience in modeling and simulating sensor performance.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities.
- Five years of technical experience in SDA.
- Proven project leadership and results delivery.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to cultivate and sustain customer relationships.
- Familiarity with DOD and IC space organizations.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, STK, and/or MATLAB.
- Understanding of various sensing and communication phenomena.
