Harbor is on the lookout for a Strategy Operations Manager to enhance our expanding Strategy + Transformation team. This team collaborates with legal firms and corporate legal departments to deliver a comprehensive suite of consulting services aimed at refining business strategies and elevating operational efficiency through transformation in people, processes, and service delivery. You will play a pivotal role in supporting various client projects on a case-by-case basis. Your responsibilities will include mentoring junior team members, offering guidance, and ensuring the successful completion of project deliverables. You will exemplify the core values of Harbor by delivering exceptional client experiences and fostering robust client relationships through outstanding service. Additionally, you will engage in business development and marketing initiatives to facilitate the ongoing growth of the team and Harbor.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in our Chicago office, with consideration for remote candidates located within the continental U.S. and Canada. We are in search of a versatile individual eager to engage in diverse project types to address our clients' strategic and operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary day-to-day liaison on client projects, coordinating with Project Leadership on all project facets, including information gathering, data analysis, report creation, presentation development, status updates, and leading client discussions.
  • Exhibit expertise in the legal sector and business insight to devise and propose solutions for clients concerning people, processes, and service delivery transformation. This may encompass projects related to in-house legal operations or law firm strategy and business services.
  • Independently structure, compose, and present effectively, generating organized and persuasive deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and client personnel to review findings and assist in implementing recommendations.
  • Guide junior team members in all aspects of client relationship management, project execution, and operational practices.
  • Continuously enhance our practice by refining methodologies, project delivery strategies, and tools.
  • Support practice administration and planning through contributions to business development, project pipeline tracking, and resource allocation.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Harbor's reputation for thought leadership and problem-solving, actively generating ideas that foster practice growth and company-wide strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
  • Bachelor's degree required, with a preference for candidates holding degrees in business or economics.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in consulting or a related industry role.
  • 3+ years of experience in a client-facing capacity, delivering projects and overseeing resources to ensure task completion.
  • Experience with in-house legal department operations and/or law firm operations and strategy is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and clients simultaneously.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities (both written and verbal), demonstrating professionalism and sound judgment when interacting with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Thrives in a collaborative team environment; takes initiative to enhance team operational efficiency through improved methodologies; capable of creating client deliverables with minimal oversight from senior leadership.
  • Positive, enthusiastic demeanor and entrepreneurial spirit, with a willingness to learn and develop new subject matter expertise and business skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining high standards for work quality and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications (primarily Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with collaboration tools such as Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary (domestic or international).
