The Senior Patient Access Coordinator is a pivotal role within our organization, expected to demonstrate exceptional expertise in all operational responsibilities. This position is designed for individuals who can seamlessly transition across various functions within the Admissions department with minimal retraining. The Coordinator is responsible for executing all patient intake processes, including pre-admission and in-person registration for individuals seeking services.

Key Responsibilities

+ Conducts comprehensive admissions processes for both pre-admit and in-person patient registrations in designated areas.

+ Secures financial authorization and accurately classifies patients based on their financial status. Engages in insurance verification through various methods including electronic systems, phone inquiries, and online resources for Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, PPO, and commercial insurance plans.

+ Performs thorough searches within the system to retrieve existing medical record numbers or assigns new ones to prevent duplication.

+ Ensures correct physician selection and identifies any privileging concerns, adeptly managing and resolving issues related to physician privileges.

+ Exhibits strong patient engagement skills, interacting with patients with empathy and attentiveness to their unique needs.

+ Capable of independently addressing routine inquiries from patients, their representatives, and insurance entities, escalating complex issues as necessary.

+ Demonstrates proficiency in financial collections, clearly explaining patient financial responsibilities and consistently meeting cash collection targets.

+ Collaborates with physicians and specialized departments to ensure accurate information is gathered for registration and account modifications.

+ Compiles reports as needed using all available resources.

+ Regularly reviews and clears worklists, providing assistance to colleagues when required.

+ Maintains competency across all areas of the registration department, demonstrating flexibility to assist wherever needed.

+ Productivity expectations include completing a minimum of 30 registrations per shift and managing at least 10 inquiries daily from patients, healthcare providers, and internal staff.

+ Adheres to all relevant state, federal, and regulatory standards, as well as Cedars-Sinai policies specific to the admissions function.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Certification Requirements:

+ High School Diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field is preferred.

+ A minimum of three years of experience in healthcare settings, particularly in Patient Access or Revenue Cycle roles, is required.

+ Certification as a Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) is preferred.
