Position Overview
The Chief of Student Engagement is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Office of Student Engagement, which encompasses various functions including New Student Orientation, Student Activities Board, Student Organizations, Student Government Association, and programs focused on leadership, civic engagement, and cultural diversity. This role also involves managing student engagement software and overseeing the Student Engagement budget. The Chief acts as the Student Advocate for conflict resolution and serves as an advisor to the Student Government Association.

Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement Initiatives:
  • Design, implement, and promote a diverse range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities aimed at engaging the entire campus community, including large-scale events, educational programs, and student-initiated activities.
  • Oversee the management of the Peacock Pride student engagement portal.
  • Facilitate campus-wide integration.
  • Develop and implement an Experiential/Co-curricular Learning Transcript.
  • Advise the Student Government Association.
  • Organize and execute New Student Orientations and Welcome Weeks during the Fall and Winter semesters.
  • Collaborate to create and implement comprehensive Leadership Development programs, including retreats and the CCS Leads initiative in partnership with Residence Life.
  • Act as the College's Student Advocate.

College Engagement Responsibilities:
  • Train and supervise CliftonStrengths Champions in collaboration with the Residence Life Coordinator to expand the Strengths initiative across campus. Provide individual coaching as needed.
  • Foster a supportive environment for student learning through activities and development opportunities.
  • Manage the assessment of co-curricular activities within Student Affairs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and the Student Engagement Coordinator.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the Esports Manager.
  • Coordinate the Weekly Student Email communications.
  • Implement targeted support initiatives for specific student populations (e.g., first-generation, transfer students).
  • Provide programming focused on cultural diversity and inclusion for students.
  • Develop a support system for student organizations, including training, marketing, and event coordination.

Administrative Duties:
  • Support and participate in Student Affairs events such as First Year Experience, Commencement, and Open House tours.
  • Serve on relevant campus committees.
  • Oversee the departmental budget.
  • Maintain campus commuter lounges and fitness facilities.
  • Support the Precollege Summer Experience program as needed.

Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in College Student Personnel or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high level of tact, empathy, and diplomacy are essential. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter capable of effectively interacting with students, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Previous experience in student activities, leadership development, or related roles is necessary.

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office and college campus setting, with a moderate noise level. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, utilize a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually. Frequent interaction with staff, faculty, students, and third parties is required. The employee may occasionally need to move files or objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The ability to navigate within the office and between campus buildings, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between locations is required.
