Position Title: Lead Scientist, Clinical Genetics and Genomics

Location: USA

Role Overview: In this pivotal laboratory-based role within Biomarker Development, you will utilize your extensive expertise in the creation and execution of genetic and genomic assays, including both targeted and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. Your data analysis proficiency will be essential in processing and interpreting results, particularly in differential gene expression analysis derived from RNA sequencing data. Collaboration with colleagues in Biomarker Development and clinical teams will be crucial to the successful implementation of clinical biomarker strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, validate, and deploy cutting-edge genetic and genomic biomarker assays, such as RT-qPCR, ddPCR, DNA sequencing, and RNA sequencing for clinical research.
  • Generate, perform quality control, and analyze data to support proof of mechanism, dose selection, and biological validation across early clinical programs, and present findings at internal forums.
  • Conduct comprehensive RNA sequencing data analysis with a focus on differential gene expression profiles.
  • Collaborate with external partners to assess new contract research organizations (CROs) and innovative modalities that enhance genetic and genomic biomarker efforts in clinical trials.
  • Execute tasks in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines, ensuring compliance with Novartis quality standards and core values.
  • Expand knowledge in additional biomarker modalities and/or technologies.
  • Engage in networking opportunities both internally and externally to broaden scientific and technical expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology, Immunology, or Cell Biology, accompanied by a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience, including post-doctoral training.
  • Proven experience in the development of PCR-based assays (e.g., qPCR, ddPCR) and associated software analysis.
  • Familiarity with genomic profiling technologies, including RNA sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing, and/or DNA sequencing.
  • Expertise in RNA sequencing data analysis with an emphasis on differential gene expression.
  • Professional background in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors is preferred, particularly in clinical biomarker development and bioanalytical assays for genetic and genomic biomarkers.
  • Skilled in nucleic acid extraction from human clinical samples (whole blood, tissues, and other biological fluids).
  • Strong communication abilities with excellent presentation skills.
