Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Vesalius Therapeutics Full time
Bioinformatics Scientist

Vesalius Therapeutics is on the lookout for a dedicated and innovative Bioinformatics Scientist eager to utilize single-cell genomic data to uncover the biological underpinnings of health and disease. The selected candidate will engage in the statistical design and evaluation of genomic studies (e.g., single-cell RNA sequencing, ATAC-seq, CRISPR screening, etc.) in partnership with laboratory biologists. This position necessitates the capability to interpret experiments that yield testable hypotheses, integrating clinical and biological outcomes through advanced methodologies and technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a robust foundation in applied statistics, deep generative models, and computational biology, complemented by a strong work ethic and the ability to operate both independently and within collaborative teams. The candidate will harness publicly accessible data and merge it with internally generated datasets. This role is both exciting and interdisciplinary, collaborating with statistical geneticists, biomedical informaticians, and laboratory biologists to aid in the creation of groundbreaking therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct computational analysis of extensive, intricate single-cell genomic datasets derived from in vitro cellular models.
  • Generate testable hypotheses and insights from complex high-dimensional data to guide target selection.
  • Connect findings and insights between internal and public datasets, as well as complementary data such as human genetics.
  • Identify and validate strategies to enhance the quality and efficiency of hypothesis generation from model systems.
  • Stay informed about emerging methodologies in computational biology and their applications for novel omics technologies.
  • Provide on-demand bioinformatics support to interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Communicate results to scientific teams and management.
  • Design and analyze bulk and single-cell genomic datasets generated from our in vitro cellular and tissue model systems.
  • Deliver testable hypotheses from complex high-dimensional data to inform target selection and validation.
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Genetics, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of post-PhD experience applying quantitative methods to address biological challenges.
  • Proficiency in single-cell transcriptomic data and analyses; familiarity with additional modalities such as histone modification data analysis is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of applied statistics and machine learning, particularly deep generative models.
  • Proficient in statistical and scripting programming languages (Python/R/etc.).
  • Knowledge of molecular biology; experience in neuroscience is a plus.
  • Experience integrating genomic data with human genetic data (GWAS, QTL, etc.) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a relevant programming language (R, Python, etc.).
  • Experience in developing novel models, algorithms, or software implementations is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in designing and interpreting in vivo and/or in vitro biological experiments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in deriving insights and hypotheses from complex high-dimensional biological data.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with biologists to communicate results and discuss follow-up experiments.
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written), as evidenced by publications and presentations.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment as a team player with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new information and work with a sense of urgency and creativity, focusing on deliverables.
  • A collaborative spirit with a strong work ethic, capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and appreciation for diverse perspectives.
What We Offer:
  • Comprehensive healthcare (PPO) and dental coverage, vision coverage, family leave, three weeks of paid time off, additional holidays, 401k retirement plan, disability and life insurance, and commuter benefits.
  • A dynamic early-stage work environment with a highly interdisciplinary, talented, and collaborative team.
  • Opportunities to contribute to the development and growth of a company with significant potential impact on human health.
  • Professional growth opportunities through mentoring, training, involvement in cross-functional projects, and chances to learn and explore new areas.
