Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Broad Institute Full time

Position Overview

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard stands at the forefront of biomedical research, aiming to uncover the molecular underpinnings of significant human diseases. Our mission encompasses the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, alongside the open dissemination of discoveries, methodologies, and data to the global scientific community.

About the Team

Within the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Genomic Mechanisms of Disease, the Claussnitzer lab offers an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral associate to join the Variant-to-Function (V2F) team. This dedicated group focuses on identifying genetic variants and elucidating gene regulatory networks and cellular pathways that influence susceptibility to type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in translating genetic insights into a deeper understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of metabolic diseases, as well as identifying actionable therapeutic hypotheses. We are looking for a creative, proactive, and highly motivated individual with expertise in cellular metabolism to spearhead research initiatives aimed at deciphering how genetic variants that affect gene regulatory networks and cellular processes associated with common metabolic disorders contribute to disease progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement functional genomics methodologies and high-throughput screening strategies to evaluate the effects of variants and genes on disease-relevant metabolic outcomes and high-dimensional profiling assays.
  • Independently design, plan, and execute projects and experiments while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Document, compile, analyze, and interpret experimental findings.
  • Actively participate in lab and project meetings, including preparing reports and presenting progress towards project objectives.
  • Mentor and supervise other lab members, contributing significantly to scientific publications, presentations, and funding proposals.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular biology, cellular biology, or a related field.
  • Self-motivated and innovative leader capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate excellent working relationships.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a dynamic, multidisciplinary research setting.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with meticulous lab notebook practices and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside critical thinking and analytical capabilities.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture, cell-based assay development, cellular metabolism, and molecular biology is essential.
  • Familiarity with imaging techniques, genome editing, arrayed or pooled screening, single-cell ATAC and/or RNA sequencing, and analysis of extensive datasets is preferred.
  • Experience working with primary adipocyte cells and relevant cell models is advantageous.
