Key Responsibilities:
Each individual is responsible for performing only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by the California Business and Professions Code (Sections § a)(b)(c), §1261, §1210, §1269, §1260.3, 17 CFR 1031 (b) (1-5), 17 CFR, and must possess a skill level commensurate with their education, training, or experience and technical capabilities.
Essential Duties:
1) Adhere to laboratory protocols for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test outcomes.

2) Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance standards. 3) Identify issues that may negatively impact test performance and either resolve the issue or promptly inform your supervisor, Director, or Medical Director. 4) Execute a diverse range of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated techniques in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other disciplines introduced into the laboratory. 5) Conduct and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as required, whether daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed. 6) Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting. 7) Recognize age-specific variations in expected results for patients from newborns to geriatrics. 8) Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient samples, and that collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited prior to reporting proficiency testing results to the appropriate agencies. 9) May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborns to geriatrics. 10) Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures. 11) Comply with all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources. 12) May be designated as General Supervisor, responsible for the section or department during their shift. 13) May have responsibilities related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Point of Care (POC). 14) Additional tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Training:

  • Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory experience covering all areas of a clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in biological science, chemistry, physical science, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as specified in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).
  • Current and valid California State License is required.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, encompassing estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, ranges from $41.46 to $55.80.

The specific starting compensation will be determined at the time of hiring, considering a variety of factors, including but not limited to skillset, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
