Key Responsibilities:
As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing a range of waived, moderate, or highly complex tests as authorized by CLIA and relevant business codes. Your duties will include:
  1. Adhering to laboratory protocols for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  2. Following established quality control policies and documenting corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  3. Identifying and resolving issues that may impact test performance, or promptly notifying your supervisor.
  4. Executing a variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods across various disciplines including Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
  5. Conducting and documenting maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment as necessary.
  6. Reviewing patient results for accuracy prior to reporting.
  7. Recognizing age-specific differences in expected results for patients from newborns to geriatrics.
  8. Ensuring proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient samples, with no collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting results.
  9. Performing venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all age groups.
  10. Assisting in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  11. Complying with all departmental and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  12. In the absence of a supervisor, you may be designated as Lead Technician, overseeing the section or department during your shift.
  13. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager or director.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • ASCP certification or equivalent is required within 18 months of employment.
  • One year of experience in a hospital laboratory setting is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution is required.
  • A current and valid state license is necessary if mandated by state regulations.

The estimated compensation for this role, which encompasses wages, benefits, and other forms of remuneration, ranges from $33.29 to $47.80 per hour.

The specific starting compensation will be determined at the time of hiring, taking into account various factors such as skill set, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
