Annually, we serve over 3,000 youth.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth Intake and Assessment Specialist plays a crucial role in conducting initial assessments at SafeZone, our day shelter for youth facing homelessness. This position involves engaging with new youth, gathering essential information, evaluating their immediate needs, and linking them to available on-site and community resources.

Additionally, this role acts as the primary Coordinated Entry Assessor for youth in the county. The Coordinated Entry System serves as a gateway to specialized housing for homeless youth. The specialist will work with youth who are in shelters, living outdoors, in unsuitable living conditions, or escaping domestic violence to complete a Coordinated Entry Assessment. This assessment determines their priority status for housing programs based on their individual histories and needs.

This position requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct thorough intakes with youth entering SafeZone, accurately entering their information into our youth database (Apricot);
  • Connect new youth to essential services and supports available at Face to Face, especially for immediate needs;
  • Perform Coordinated Entry assessments with youth experiencing homelessness, both by appointment and on a drop-in basis;
  • Accurately enter assessments into HMIS (statewide database) in a timely manner;
  • Assist with daily operations at SafeZone as required;
  • Train new staff on the intake and Coordinated Entry assessment processes;
  • Stay informed about updates to CEYS and HMIS requirements, communicating changes to the team as necessary;
  • Collaborate with county-wide Coordinated Entry partners to monitor the status of youth on the priority list;
  • Build and maintain relationships with youth-serving programs both internally and externally;
  • Provide exceptional customer service during intakes and assessments, utilizing a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach;
  • Deliver all services guided by evidence-based principles for assisting youth in overcoming homelessness;
  • Engage with youth respectfully and meaningfully;
  • Respond to crises and de-escalate situations professionally;
  • Work collaboratively with staff to maintain a team-oriented environment; and,
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
  • B.A. in social services or related field preferred; significant experience may substitute for degree;
  • At least 2 years of experience working with homeless or under-resourced youth;
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment;
  • Experience with positive youth development and harm reduction strategies;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High reliability and integrity;
  • Positive attitude and a commitment to meeting youth needs;
  • Effective crisis management skills and ability to handle stressful situations;
  • Understanding of homelessness and its impact on youth;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations;
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks; and,
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in data entry.

PAY & BENEFITS:

The compensation for this position is $22.50 per hour, commensurate with qualifications. Face to Face offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, a 403b retirement plan, as well as generous paid time off and holidays.
