This position involves engaging with new youth, gathering essential information, evaluating their immediate needs, and linking them to both on-site and community resources.

Additionally, this role serves as the primary assessor for the Coordinated Entry System for youth in Ramsey County, which acts as a gateway to dedicated housing for those experiencing homelessness. The specialist will work with youth who are sheltered, unsheltered, or fleeing domestic violence to complete a Coordinated Entry Assessment, which prioritizes them for housing programs based on their unique histories and needs.

This position requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

  • Stay informed on updates to CEYS and HMIS requirements, communicating changes to the team as necessary;
  • Collaborate with county-wide Coordinated Entry partners to monitor the status of youth on the priority list;
  • Build and maintain relationships with youth-serving programs both internally and externally;
  • Provide exceptional customer service during intakes and assessments, utilizing a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach;
  • Deliver all services guided by evidence-based principles for assisting youth in overcoming homelessness;
  • Engage with youth in a respectful and meaningful manner;
  • Respond to crises and de-escalate situations calmly and professionally;
  • Collaborate with colleagues and maintain a team-oriented environment; and,
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
  • B.A. in social services or related field preferred; extensive experience may substitute for degree;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with homeless or under-resourced youth;
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment;
  • Experience with positive youth development and harm reduction strategies;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High reliability and integrity;
  • Positive attitude and commitment to meeting youth needs;
  • Effective crisis management skills and ability to handle stressful situations;
  • Understanding of homelessness and its impact on youth;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations;
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks; and,
  • Strong attention to detail and proficiency in data entry.
