JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth Intake and Assessment Specialist plays a crucial role in conducting assessments at SafeZone, our day shelter for youth facing homelessness. This position involves engaging with new youth, gathering essential information, evaluating their immediate needs, and linking them to available on-site and community resources.

Additionally, this role serves as the primary assessor for the Coordinated Entry System for youth in the region. The Coordinated Entry System acts as a gateway to specialized housing solutions for homeless youth. The specialist will assist youth who are experiencing homelessness in various situations, including those staying in shelters, living outdoors, or fleeing domestic violence, by completing a Coordinated Entry Assessment. This assessment is instrumental in prioritizing youth for housing programs based on their unique histories and needs.

This position entails a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct thorough intakes with youth entering SafeZone, ensuring accurate and prompt data entry into our youth database (Apricot);
  • Connect new youth to essential services and supports offered at Face to Face, particularly addressing immediate needs;
  • Perform Coordinated Entry assessments with youth experiencing homelessness, accommodating both appointments and walk-ins;
  • Accurately input assessments into HMIS (statewide database) in a timely manner;
  • Assist with various daily operations at SafeZone as required;
  • Train new staff members on intake procedures and Coordinated Entry assessments;
  • Stay informed about updates to CEYS and HMIS requirements, communicating necessary changes to the team;
  • Collaborate with county-wide Coordinated Entry partners to monitor the status of youth on the priority list as needed;
  • Build and maintain relationships with youth-serving programs both internally and externally;
  • Deliver exceptional customer service during intakes and assessments, utilizing a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach;
  • Provide all services in alignment with evidence-based practices for assisting youth in overcoming homelessness;
  • Engage with youth respectfully and meaningfully;
  • Manage crises and de-escalate situations with professionalism and composure;
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration with other staff members; and,
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
  • B.A. in social services or related field preferred; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of degree;
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with homeless or under-resourced youth;
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment;
  • Experience with positive youth development and harm reduction strategies;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High level of reliability and integrity;
  • Positive attitude and a commitment to meeting youth needs;
  • Effective crisis management skills and the ability to handle stressful situations;
  • Understanding of homelessness and its effects on youth;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks; and,
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in data entry.

PAY & BENEFITS:
