Light Rail Systems Maintenance Manager

Position Overview

About the Role
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is looking for a proactive and skilled individual to fill the position of Light Rail Systems Maintenance Manager. This role is essential in delivering high-quality service to the residents of Maryland.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the installation, testing, maintenance, operation, design, inspection, and repair of intricate electro-mechanical systems and both analog and digital circuitry.
- Participate in budget planning and manage financial accounting related to labor and materials.
- Collaborate with training personnel to enhance training activities.
- Stay informed about advancements in transit technology and develop innovative maintenance strategies.
- Directly oversee electronic technicians, repair staff, and administrative personnel.
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment, with occasional travel required throughout the service area under varying weather conditions.
- Availability for on-call duties 24/7 is essential.

Work Schedule
Standard hours are from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with weekends off.

Qualifications
Education:
Completion of an accredited high school program or equivalent, along with successful completion of a vocational or trade school program in relevant fields such as:
- High voltage electrical systems
- Electronic communication systems
- Railroad signaling systems
- Electronic fare collection systems
- Railcar electronic systems
- Other complex electro-mechanical systems

Experience:
A minimum of five years of experience in one or more of the aforementioned fields, including hands-on work with complex digital and analog circuitry.

Substitution Information
Military service experience related to administrative roles or unit operations may substitute for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements
- Compliance with substance abuse testing protocols as per federal regulations.
- Availability for emergency call-ins and maintenance of reliable communication for on-call duties.
- Flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
- Designation as an "Essential Employee" requiring adherence to relevant policies.

Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland is required.
- Candidates must obtain a Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class B restricted license before the end of the probationary period.
