Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled leader to serve as Deputy Director of Transportation Operations for the Maryland Department of Transportation. As a key member of our executive team, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to our transportation operations division.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the safe and efficient operation of our transportation systems, meeting all regulatory standards and performance metrics.
  • Leadership and Development: Provide guidance and direction to staff, including developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and budgets.
  • Contract and Labor Management: Manage contract negotiations, collective bargaining agreements, and grievance investigations.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Provide support to other departments as needed, including serving on boards, commissions, and committees.
  • Training and Development: Develop and implement training programs and provide developmental work plans for staff.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Administration, Management, Public Safety, or related field.
  • Experience: At least six years of progressively responsible experience in transportation operations, public safety, or related field, including three years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Education: Master's degree in Transportation, Administration, Management, Public Safety, or related field.
  • Contract and Labor Expertise: Experience in contract negotiations, collective bargaining agreements, and grievance investigations.
