Position Overview

The Senior Accountant specializing in Financial Forecasting at Novogradac & Company plays a crucial role in delivering financial insights and structured finance solutions. This position, under the guidance of a Supervisor, involves executing a range of tasks that support financial forecasting and related services, including cost segregation studies and valuation engagements. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assignments focused on preparing financial forecasts and other related tasks as instructed by the Supervisor.
  • Analyze and extract both financial and non-financial data from client-provided documents, such as letters of intent, term sheets, audited financial statements, tax returns, partnership agreements, loan agreements, appraisals, and independent engineering reports.
  • Engage with clients to identify strategies for enhancing investment returns by assessing various ownership structures, federal and state incentives, as well as debt and equity financing alternatives.
  • Participate in discussions with clients and project finance teams regarding investment structuring to qualify for federal tax credits, including those from opportunity zones, renewable energy initiatives, and historic rehabilitation.
  • Document and reference the assumptions utilized in financial modeling projects.
  • Compile and present summarized financial data reports.
  • Identify and communicate potential challenges during engagements.
  • Assist with accounting, audit, and tax projects, particularly concerning year-end financial statement audits and tax returns, along with cost certifications and cost segregation studies.
  • Undertake additional related tasks as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in enhancing knowledge of project and corporate finance, particularly in relation to tax credit-subsidized investments.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Deliver work with precision and efficiency, maintaining a strong attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills, capable of managing complex activities and prioritizing competing demands and deadlines.
  • Be open to constructive feedback and adapt as needed.
  • Work collaboratively to foster a productive, team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and evaluate various formulas such as:
    • Sumif and COUNTIF
    • VLookup
    • Pivot tables
    • If formulas, including multiple conditions
    • IRR, MIRR, and XIRR
    • PV and NPV
    • Goal seek
    • MATCH
    • INDEX Match
    • CONCATENATE
    • ROUND
  • Possess strong computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite, and the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Maintain professionalism in interactions with colleagues and clients.
  • Adhere to internal deadlines and time entry requirements.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and add value to the team.
  • Knowledge of partnership accounting/taxation, real estate, and lending terminology is advantageous.
  • Eligibility to sit for the CFA or CPA exam, or having passed sections of these exams, is a plus.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed and to travel domestically if required.
Educational Background

A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics, along with two years of relevant experience is preferred.

Experience in areas such as renewable energy, historic preservation, new markets tax credits, affordable housing, low-income housing tax credits, opportunity zones, and related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.
