Position Title: Individual Support Specialist

Job Type: Paraeducator/Instructional Assistant

Organization: Tumwater School District

Location: Tumwater Hill Elementary School

Employment Duration: One Year Only, School Year

Work Hours: 6.5 hours/day

Compensation: $24.25 - $29.56 per hour

Note: This position is not eligible for benefits.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • ESSA certification is mandatory for all positions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Valid WA State driver's license and reliable transportation may be necessary.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is required for health-related duties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist individuals or small groups in implementing accommodations as outlined in IEPs for academic and recreational activities.
  • Attend to personal care needs of students as assigned, which may include mobility assistance, toileting, and feeding.
  • Support motor therapy activities as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Work with students who have severe needs and are medically fragile.
  • Identify individual student needs and apply appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Maintain a positive approach to discipline in accordance with site procedures.
  • Participate as a member of a student de-escalation/restraint team.
  • Assist classroom teachers and provide library support.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and bus transitions.
  • Perform health room duties as trained.
  • Deliver small group or individual instruction tailored to student needs.
  • Manage records and reports related to student progress and IEPs.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student and staff information.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Foster a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning.
  • Attend planning meetings with educators and special service staff as requested.
  • Perform additional paraprofessional duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Demonstrated capability for the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
  • Physical ability to assist students with mobility challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with diverse disabilities.
  • Willingness to undergo training in relevant areas.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
