Role Summary

The Preschool Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering enriching experiences for preschool-aged children. This position involves facilitating engaging, age-appropriate activities under the guidance of the lead educator and/or educational manager, providing administrative support to classroom personnel, ensuring a clean and safe learning environment, and assisting with the supervision of students during transportation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support educators in implementing age-appropriate activities (e.g., games, arts, music, science, language, nutrition) by engaging with individual or small groups of children to reinforce learning concepts and address their needs.
  • Guide students by enforcing classroom rules and providing constructive discipline and support.
  • Oversee children during various indoor and outdoor activities (e.g., meals, snack times, rest periods, group or individual play) to ensure a safe and positive atmosphere.
  • Prepare and distribute educational and recreational materials to provide necessary resources for students and assist the teacher.
  • Assist children with personal needs (e.g., fastening shoes, putting on mittens, hats, coats) during transport, ensuring safe loading and unloading from vehicles.
  • Secure students and/or equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, seat belts) on transportation for their safety and well-being.
  • Maintain classroom supplies and work areas to ensure availability and uphold a clean and safe learning environment.
  • Perform clerical tasks (e.g., copying, attendance tracking) to support classroom operations.
  • Report observations and incidents (e.g., behavioral issues, accidents) to appropriate personnel for effective communication.
  • Document activities and prepare written materials to provide reliable information and comply with program standards.
  • Encourage positive habits to enhance student outcomes and foster development.
  • Engage positively with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Uphold confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience working or volunteering in early childhood settings. Familiarity with ECEAP, Head Start, or other state Pre-K programs is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, is also preferred.

Essential Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with young children.
Position Requirements
  • DCYF Portable Background Check.
  • Proof of a recent negative TB test.
  • Certification in Infant/Child CPR/First Aid.
  • Food handler's card.
  • Commitment to initial and ongoing professional development.
Additional Information
  • This role involves working 8 hours per day (Monday to Friday) during the academic year, with potential for additional hours as needed.
  • The compensation for this position is $21.10 per hour, with a $1.00/hour wage enhancement for regular use of Spanish and an additional $0.50/hour for a third language.
