About the Role:

The archival collections at our institution consist of over 20,000 culturally and historically significant items that support research and educational initiatives. These collections include photographs, manuscripts, and digital media, focusing on materials that accompany object acquisitions. The institution also holds multi-media archives from federal archaeological collections.

Key Responsibilities:

The Cultural Heritage Archivist will report to the Collections Manager. Responsibilities include managing the institution's records and archives, ensuring proper organization, preservation, and accessibility of both physical and digital holdings. The Archivist should be well-versed in established standards and practices within the archival field.

The role involves processing and managing multi-media archives, collaborating with senior staff as necessary. Key tasks include:
  • Arranging, cataloging, and digitizing archival materials according to best practices.
  • Communicating with stakeholders and coordinating archival visits for research purposes.
  • Overseeing the production of new archival materials, including digitization of various media types.
  • Maintaining records of ownership and transfers, ensuring the physical care of collections.
  • Creating finding aids to enhance access and discoverability of the archives.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in archival science or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with historical or cultural archival collections.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards and collections management databases.
  • Familiarity with rights and reproduction laws.
  • Understanding of current standards in accessibility, diversity, and inclusion practices.
