Department Overview

The College of Engineering (COE) at UC Berkeley is celebrated for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top engineering colleges in the United States. With over 225 faculty members, 1,800 graduate students, and 3,100 undergraduate students across seven academic departments, Engineering is the second largest college on campus. The multi-unit Dean's Office offers administrative, student services, development, capital projects, and facilities management.

This role involves designing, installing, managing, and providing technical support for audiovisual systems within the College of Engineering facilities. Responsibilities include engaging with community members to gather requirements, providing guidance, designing AV IT systems according to industry best practices, selecting and procuring reliable hardware and software, installing, configuring, and maintaining equipment to meet professional standards, offering timely end-user audiovisual support, and managing projects while overseeing vendor services to achieve unit AV IT objectives.
Key Responsibilities

1. **AV IT System Design and Installation**
  • Design, install, and manage intricate AV IT systems in various facilities, adhering to organizational needs, codes, regulations, and industry best practices. Responsibilities encompass requirements gathering, design, engineering, procurement, installation, testing, documentation, and user training.
  • Engage in planning efforts, conduct product research, and recommend emerging technologies and innovative approaches for utilizing AV IT technology in instruction, administration, and research.
  • Create detailed proposals, including AV signal flow diagrams, schematics, and infrastructure drawings.
  • Evaluate hardware and software products to ensure they meet user requirements and compatibility with campus AV and IT guidelines.
  • Provide AV IT consulting for the College of Engineering Dean's Office and other COE units regarding specialized audiovisual needs.
  • Collaborate with other technical staff in planning and implementing interdepartmental systems and solutions.

2. **End User and Event Support**
  • Assist users with daily AV equipment usage, responding promptly to urgent requests.
  • Provide standby support for high-priority meetings and presentations.
  • Offer audiovisual support for special events, including equipment setup, streaming, recording, and editing.

3. **Project and Vendor Management**
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings to ensure user needs are met.
  • Make recommendations on installation plans and lead on-site bid walks.
  • Select and oversee outside contractors for AV IT system acquisition, installation, and testing.
  • Ensure that AV IT installations are thoroughly documented and verify that projects adhere to specifications.
  • Monitor project timelines and budgets, coordinating with architects and contractors.

4. **AV IT System Maintenance**
  • Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting of complex AV IT systems, including inspections, programming, firmware updates, and repairs.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience in installing, programming, operating, and maintaining audiovisual systems, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of audio, video, AV IT control systems, and electronics theory.
  • Ability to interpret and create AV flow diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing AV projects from scope to user training.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills for supporting diverse personnel.
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Relevant professional certifications are preferred.

This position is a full-time career role eligible for comprehensive benefits. The budgeted salary range for this position is $80,400.00 to $112,900.00 annually. This position is exempt and compensated monthly.
