Department Overview

The PACCAR Embedded Engineering team is at the forefront of revolutionizing control systems and software development for commercial vehicles. Position Overview

This role involves defining Functional Safety requirements across various technological advancements, including electric vehicles (EVs) and Level 2/Level 4 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). We seek a collaborative individual who will engage with multiple engineering disciplines across PACCAR divisions. The Functional Safety Engineer will spearhead the creation of Functional Safety deliverables and requirements for systems related to commercial EVs, Automated Driving (L2+), and Autonomous (L4) trucks. We are looking for a dynamic thinker with meticulous attention to detail who can work within a high-performance team to manage technology and processes, ensuring timely delivery of Functional Safety outputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety analyses, derive and specify safety requirements and concepts.
  • Develop work products for necessary systems and perform hazard and risk assessments.
  • Maintain relevant specifications using IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Generation (DNG) / MEDINI.
  • Lead and participate in software peer reviews and Functional Safety assessments to ensure adherence to requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with PACCAR processes and safety protocols.
  • Act as a global representative for the team, collaborating closely with product partners.
  • Support and/or lead initiatives for customer engagement and education regarding these technologies and their applications.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive or related electronic systems engineering.
  • Experience in the design and development of safety-critical systems/components (ISO26262).
  • Familiarity with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA, etc.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills and basic project management capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with both local and remote colleagues.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and collaborative skills.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
  • Knowledge of major automotive or heavy truck systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Networks, and Powertrain.
  • Experience in drafting and understanding software and hardware requirements.
  • Familiarity with automotive product release and specification processes.
  • Experience with Requirements Management tools and/or PLM systems.
  • Level I Functional Safety Certification.
