Position Overview

The Functional Safety Engineer will play a crucial role in defining safety requirements across various technological advancements, including electric vehicles (EVs) and Level 2/Level 4 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). This position requires a collaborative team player who will engage with multiple engineering disciplines across PACCAR divisions. The successful candidate will lead the creation of functional safety work products and requirements for systems related to commercial EVs, automated driving (L2+), and autonomous (L4) trucks. We are looking for an energetic and detail-oriented individual who can thrive in a high-performance team environment to manage technology and processes effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety-related analyses and specify safety requirements and concepts.
  • Develop necessary work products and perform hazard and risk assessments.
  • Maintain relevant specifications using IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Generation (DNG) / MEDINI.
  • Participate in software peer reviews and ensure compliance with functional safety requirements.
  • Adhere to PACCAR's processes and safety protocols.
  • Act as a global representative for the team in partnership with product development.
  • Support and lead customer outreach initiatives related to these technologies and their applications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive or similar electronic systems engineering.
  • Experience in designing and developing safety-critical systems/components (ISO26262).
  • Familiarity with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA, etc.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and basic project management skills.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with local and remote colleagues.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • Proven technical leadership skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of major automotive or heavy truck systems, including ADAS, motion control, automotive networks, and powertrains.
  • Experience in drafting and understanding software and hardware requirements.
  • Familiarity with automotive product release and specification processes.
  • Experience with requirements management tools and/or PLM systems.
  • Level I Functional Safety Certification.
