Position Title: Supervisor of Plans Examination

Salary: $128,356.80 Annually

Overview:
Under general supervision, this role involves overseeing, delegating, reviewing, and engaging in the tasks of personnel responsible for evaluating construction plans. The position ensures the quality of work and compliance with established regulations and procedures while executing complex technical tasks related to the area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Organize, prioritize, and supervise the activities of staff engaged in plan examination.
2. Develop schedules and methods for delivering plan examination services; assess resource requirements and collaborate with management to allocate resources effectively.
3. Contribute to the formulation of objectives, policies, and procedures; recommend enhancements to existing standards and monitor compliance with established practices.
4. Assist in the recruitment and training of plan examination personnel; address performance issues and implement disciplinary measures as necessary.
5. Participate in budget preparation and management for the plan examination program; monitor financial expenditures.
6. Provide expert guidance and assistance to the public, contractors, and architects regarding construction codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations; suggest necessary modifications to plans for compliance.
7. Coordinate plan examination activities with various departments; facilitate communication between departments and external consultants as needed.
8. Advise inspectors on potential field inspection challenges; conduct on-site evaluations to resolve complex issues.
9. Maintain accurate records of plan examination activities; prepare reports and documentation as required.
10. Deliver customer service at the front counter; address inquiries from citizens and provide interpretations of construction codes.
11. Stay informed of new trends and developments in planning; integrate relevant advancements into programs as appropriate.

Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Operations and services of a plan examination program.
- Principles and practices of plan examination.
- Supervision, training, and performance evaluation techniques.
- Budget preparation and administration basics.
- Record-keeping principles and business correspondence.
- Construction methods and materials.
- Relevant building and zoning codes and regulations.

Skills:
- Ability to coordinate and direct plan examination initiatives.
- Supervise and review the work of assigned staff.
- Select, train, and evaluate personnel.
- Develop and implement goals and policies for plan examination services.
- Analyze and interpret building plans and specifications accurately.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience:
- Equivalent to high school graduation supplemented by college-level coursework in planning, construction, or a related field.
- A minimum of four years of experience in building or construction plan review.

Licenses:
- Valid driver's license.
- Plans Examiner certification.
