Infrastructure Maintenance Supervisor

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, this role entails overseeing, assigning, and evaluating the work of personnel responsible for the upkeep, repair, and modification of municipal heavy and light-duty machinery, facilities, roadways, sewage systems, and other related infrastructures. The supervisor will utilize the city's maintenance management system to ensure quality of work and compliance with established policies and procedures while performing various technical tasks pertinent to assigned responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff engaged in the maintenance and repair of municipal equipment and infrastructures.
  2. Establish schedules and methods for delivering maintenance services; assess resource requirements and coordinate with management to allocate resources effectively.
  3. Contribute to the formulation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; recommend improvements to existing standards and participate in the implementation of approved changes.
  4. Assist in the recruitment of maintenance personnel; provide or coordinate training and address performance deficiencies as necessary.
  5. Organize daily work schedules considering seasonal demands such as snow removal, street repairs, and other maintenance tasks.
  6. Receive and prioritize maintenance requests from various departments; manage work crews based on maintenance needs.
  7. Supervise and coordinate comprehensive maintenance services in facilities, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and overall facility aesthetics.
  8. Monitor work sites to ensure adherence to safety protocols; address complex operational issues as they arise.
  9. Inspect ongoing work and completed projects to ensure compliance with specifications and municipal regulations.
  10. Provide necessary documentation for sewer line adjustments to relevant city personnel.
  11. Conduct research to gather information regarding property lines and easements using municipal resources.
  12. Respond to emergencies, providing assistance during incidents such as fires, floods, and traffic signal failures.
  13. Prepare specifications for maintenance contracts with external vendors and manage budget expenditures.
  14. Maintain accurate records in the computerized maintenance management system.
  15. Generate analytical reports on operations and activities; estimate and requisition materials as per established guidelines.
  16. Engage in professional development activities to stay informed about trends in public works maintenance.
  17. Address public inquiries and complaints, recommending corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Project management practices and safety standards.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to high school graduation supplemented by specialized training in public works maintenance, along with four years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Licenses:

Possession of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) may be required for certain positions.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to work in various environments, including office settings and outdoor locations, with exposure to diverse weather conditions and potential hazards.
