About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Management Supervisor to join our team at the City of Reno. As a key member of our Maintenance and Operations Department, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our fleet maintenance section, ensuring the efficient management of our vehicle fleet, and providing exceptional leadership to our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operations Management: Plan, assign, and supervise the daily operations of the assigned Fleet Maintenance section, ensuring that work is completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Workforce Management: Review, organize, and coordinate shop workflows, workloads, and schedules with the Fleet Maintenance section, prioritizing requests as needed.
  • Quality Control: Inspect work in progress and upon completion, detecting and correcting inefficient utilization of staff and equipment, ensuring that work conforms to specifications and is in accordance with City regulations, policies, and operating procedures and practices.
  • Performance Evaluation: Review and evaluate maintenance and repair production levels and shop mechanics and maintenance accountability.
  • Staff Development: Participate in the selection of assigned maintenance staff, provide or coordinate training, work with staff to correct deficiencies, and implement discipline procedures.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate priorities, goals, objectives, and activities which relate to Fleet operations and make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures, participating in the implementation of approved policies and procedures.
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping: Maintain and prepare productivity reports and maintain records and files of repair and maintenance work performed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safe work standards, enforce safety regulations, and ensure that the work site is set up according to established safety procedures.
  • Communication: Respond and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen and customer inquiries or complaints.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college-level coursework or specialized training in fleet maintenance.
  • Work Experience: Five years of work experience in fleet maintenance, including two years of administrative and supervisory experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license, obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 12 months of hire, and hold an ASE-Certified Master Automobile Technician certificate or ASE-Certified Master Medium-Heavy Truck Technician certificate.
