Medication Services Coordinator

Role Overview:
The Medication Services Coordinator plays a vital role in providing administrative support for medication services to patients. Key responsibilities include managing the electronic prescription system, overseeing physician dispensing, tracking medication orders, and liaising with insurance providers regarding medication claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meticulously monitors all prescriptions issued by healthcare providers, maintaining an accurate daily record of all medications dispensed and electronically prescribed.
- Supervises and ensures compliance with all prescriptions written within the facility, confirming that a qualified e-prescribing system is utilized and that all prescriptions adhere to regulatory guidelines.
- Welcomes patients at the service window, explaining the medication dispensing process and verifying patient information on record. Offers patients options for physician dispensing or e-prescription to their preferred pharmacy.
- Utilizes relevant software to verify patient insurance coverage for prescriptions, ensuring accurate billing in accordance with their coverage plans.
- Inputs prescriptions for physician dispensing using designated software, ensuring that patient information is accurately submitted for claims and that proper claims are recorded.
- Collaborates with insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations for medication claims that may be denied, following up on submitted requests as necessary.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree is preferred.
- Certification as a pharmacy technician.
- Up to two years of relevant work experience or training.
- Familiarity with computer and telephony systems, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Strong background in customer service, ideally within a healthcare context.
- Excellent verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer processing functions.
- Capability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to address and resolve customer concerns with professionalism and tact.
- Capacity to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Strong organizational skills.
- This position primarily operates indoors within a medical/business setting. Employees may encounter exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, biohazard materials, and other medical-related factors, along with moderate noise levels.
- Visual acuity is required for reading and processing documents; the role necessitates close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing acuity is essential for communication with staff and patients. The position involves walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds regularly, as well as the ability to sit for extended periods. Employees may experience moderate noise levels and interruptions, with occasional requirements to work evenings and weekends as needed.
