About the Role

Scripps Health is seeking a highly skilled Patient Service Representative to join our team at the Scripps Anderson Medical Pavilion in La Jolla. As a Patient Service Representative, you will play a critical role in creating a positive experience for our patients by providing exceptional customer service and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answering Incoming Calls: Respond to a high volume of incoming calls in a timely and professional manner, providing accurate information and resolving patient inquiries.
  • Scheduling Patient Appointments: Schedule patient appointments efficiently, ensuring accurate documentation and routing of messages, and confirming appointments according to guidelines.
  • Initiating and Validating Referrals/Authorizations: Initiate and validate referrals and authorizations, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Providing Proactive Customer Service: Demonstrate a proactive approach to customer service, listening to patient concerns, taking ownership of solutions, and escalating issues to leadership as needed.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in Computer Applications: Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including scheduling software and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent Communication and Customer Service Skills: Possess excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact with patients, payers, and providers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Strong Organizational and Analytical Skills: Exhibit strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and solve problems in a timely and efficient manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Customer Service or Healthcare: Possess 1 or more years of experience in customer service or a healthcare/medical office environment.
  • Adaptability and Prioritization: Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Insurance Guidelines: Possess knowledge of medical terminology, commercial and government health insurance, and billing guidelines, including ACA requirements, DRGs, ICD9/ICD10 codes, and CPT/HCPC codes and modifiers.
