About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our team at S&ME. As a key member of our Construction Services team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze construction material project plans to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct field inspections and testing of construction materials, including soil, concrete, masonry, and asphalt, to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of observations and test results, and utilize data management software to track and analyze data.
  • Perform routine maintenance on field and laboratory equipment to ensure it is in good working order.
  • Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project success and resolve any issues that may arise.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or vocational training in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction testing and inspections, or 1 year of related experience plus vocational training, or an associate degree in a related field with no experience.
  • Effective communication skills, including speaking, reading, and writing in English.
  • Basic math skills, including understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
  • Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device.
  • One or more active certifications in construction materials testing, such as American Concrete Institute (ACI) or DOT certifications.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk over rough and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day, with occasional periods of up to 12 hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40-50 pounds of field and laboratory samples and equipment.
  • Ability to maneuver field equipment safely, including a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites.
  • Ability to travel out-of-town for assignments, typically overnight.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary.
