Field Engineer Position Description: The Field Engineer role is integral to the field operations team, tasked with gathering, assessing, and coordinating all necessary information to execute the project in alignment with contractual obligations. This position ensures that all work adheres to safety protocols, meets scheduling demands, and is completed to the highest quality standards. The Field Engineer is accountable for safeguarding and advancing the interests of Turner in all related matters.
Reports To: Project Superintendent or Superintendents
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct line and grade work for building layout and control as necessary.
- Support the implementation of the site safety program and ensure subcontractor adherence to safety standards and regulations.
- Assist in maintaining contract documents and electronic records for field operations.
- Help prepare Daily Construction Reports (DCR's).
- Evaluate all work as it is performed to ensure accuracy within accepted tolerances.
- Review contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for proper coordination and installation.
- Assist in preparing project as-builts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Reports to: Project Engineer or Engineer
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in obtaining and reviewing information and approvals for processing shop drawings, product data, and samples, facilitating communication across all project team levels.
- Help manage communication aspects, including submissions and responses for Requests for Information (RFI's).
- Assist in preparing estimates for work changes, including reviewing Change Order requests from subcontractors.
- Examine contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation.
- Support the maintenance and updates of contract documents, electronic records, and project logs.
- Distribute necessary construction information to relevant parties.
- Assist Engineering in ensuring timely release of materials and equipment for fabrication or manufacture to meet construction schedules.
- Contribute to the preparation of final project records, including close-out documents and Operations/Maintenance (OM) Manuals.
- Perform other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
- Completion of two years of college education from an accredited degree program in Engineering, Construction, or a related field. Building construction, engineering, or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, eagerness to learn, and effective verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
- A foundational understanding of scheduling programs is preferred.
Work Environment: While performing job duties, the employee regularly works on-site at construction locations, where exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and electrical hazards may occur. Noise levels in these environments typically range from moderate to very loud.
Qualifications for an Engineering Assistant:
- Completion of two years of college education from an accredited degree program in Engineering, Construction, or a related field, or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience in building construction, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with general contracts, subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, eagerness to learn, and effective verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
- Proficiency with necessary computer applications is required.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing essential functions.
