Our client is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing exceptional and equitable education to marginalized children, their families, and their communities.

Their mission focuses on closing significant racial achievement and opportunity gaps by nurturing confident, creative, and compassionate students who will become future leaders through their charter school and various programs.

They are seeking a committed Community Engagement Specialist to enhance family involvement and support school culture initiatives.

This role encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at fostering family engagement, supporting the school's cultural objectives, and ensuring comprehensive assistance for families with the greatest needs.

The specialist will collaborate closely with school personnel, families, community partners, and volunteers to cultivate an inclusive and engaging atmosphere for all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities of the Community Engagement Specialist:

  • Welcome families during drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Maintain systems that assist students and families in achieving school culture goals.
  • Conduct culturally relevant outreach to assist families with significant needs.
  • Oversee assigned projects with meticulous attention to detail, adhering to deadlines, and producing high-quality outcomes by:
  • Implementing a prioritization system for immediate, short-term, and long-term tasks.
  • Gathering family information (attendance, demographics, preferred topics, children aged 0-5).
  • Track ongoing communications with families, educators, and partners to ensure consistent support.
  • Participate in the Steering Committee of the Family Council.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with partners, staff, and community organizations as necessary.
  • Assist with grant management and contracts related to family programming.
  • Coordinate family participation in programs and activities designed to engage families and alumni.
  • Support the distribution of information and materials related to activities, family conferences, and events.
  • Facilitate services that promote family education and support groups.
  • Regularly communicate regarding parents' and families' ideas, needs, and concerns for families with the highest needs.
  • Support the development of an alumni network for ongoing engagement with volunteer opportunities.
  • Represent the organization in community partner meetings and external events.
  • Coordinate internal staff events to enhance organizational culture.
  • Assist in recruiting and signing up volunteers for organizational needs.
  • Manage and track ambassadors through internal systems and ensure they receive proper orientation and training.
  • Monitor all ambassadors' in-kind donations and volunteer hours.
  • Develop and oversee annual ambassador evaluation and feedback processes.
  • Attend various staff and family events.
  • Engage in professional development to foster growth within the organization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement practices, including observations, reflections, and collaborations.

Qualifications for the Community Engagement Specialist:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in fundraising or development (paid or unpaid) required.
  • Experience managing data entry and report generation with a CRM or donor database system.
  • Strong communication skills with internal staff, external partners, donors, funders, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and shifting work priorities and deadlines.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to culturally relevant practices.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, particularly people of color.
