About Us
Outside In is dedicated to empowering marginalized youth, including those experiencing homelessness, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of color. We believe in the power of youth engagement and aim to provide them with the tools and resources necessary for their growth and success.
Role Summary
The Resource Navigator will play a crucial role in our Youth Services team, specifically within the ROSE program. This position involves collaborating with a diverse team to support youth at various stages of their journey, particularly those facing significant challenges. The ideal candidate will utilize innovative engagement strategies and emphasize a strengths-based approach, ensuring that youth are actively involved in their own decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge of resources available in the Portland area, including treatment, housing, support groups, mental health services, and basic needs.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate participant needs and connect them with appropriate resources.
- Build and nurture relationships with youth receiving services, ensuring they feel supported and empowered.
- Collaborate with community partners and organizations to facilitate access to services and eliminate barriers.
- Support Peer Mentor staff by providing training and resources related to substance use disorder topics.
- Engage youth in program offerings and assist in their transition to additional resources as needed.
- Document services and outcomes in a timely and professional manner.
Qualifications
- Understanding of the challenges faced by LGBTQ and BIPOC communities.
- Familiarity with local resources and trauma-informed care practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Experience in a similar role or working with youth from various backgrounds is preferred.
- Ability to travel within the community and assist participants in accessing services.
Working Environment
This position involves a mix of office work and community engagement, requiring the ability to meet participants in various locations. The role may involve some physical activity, including lifting and moving items up to 20 pounds. A valid driver's license is preferred for community travel.
