Position Overview
The Supply Chain Coordinator plays a crucial role in guaranteeing the timely acquisition of materials essential for production activities. This position involves overseeing material planning functions, including placing purchase orders and liaising with suppliers to ensure the delivery of products to assembly lines and service parts. The coordinator significantly influences the plant's access to necessary inputs, materials, goods, and services for both current and future operations. Responsibilities also include planning for engineering changes and coordinating their integration into production as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct efficient and cost-effective procurement of production, inventory, and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) items.
- Evaluate requisitions to ascertain quantity, specifications, and delivery timelines.
- Recommend and select suppliers from an approved list to meet scheduled plant deliveries.
- Oversee the onboarding process for newly selected suppliers in relation to material planning.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels and safety stock for assigned parts.
- Regularly manage Exception Messages (Expedites/De-Expedites/Cancels) to fulfill the delivery and inventory requirements of the business.
- Ensure compliance with all procedures related to purchase order approvals, documentation, and archiving.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to address quality issues with suppliers.
- Proactively identify and manage shortages, flagging root causes and corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved cash flow with suppliers.
- Analyze and select parts for Kanban and supplier replenishment systems.
- May lead and guide others to achieve organizational objectives.
- Expedite deliveries to meet critical requirements.
- Maintain the material plan at the time fence to ensure a continuous supply.
- Work with production planners to devise solutions when parts cannot be delivered as promised.
- Continuously assess supplier performance and escalate issues to Procurement as necessary.
- Resolve invoicing discrepancies with suppliers and accounting departments.
- Analyze material and capacity availability to provide accurate customer promise dates for sales orders.
- Maintain item master lead time information based on process improvements and current demand.
- Manage internal and vendor-managed inventory to meet production schedules.
- Engage with relevant functional groups to address challenging delivery requirements.
- Communicate forecasts and replenishment plans to suppliers.
- Monitor open requirements, vendor performance, and expedite as needed, ensuring timely resolution of delivery, quality, or pricing issues.
- Identify and implement productivity and cost reduction initiatives to align with corporate goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a planning or purchasing role within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Certifications such as APICS (CPIM) or NAPM (CPM) are advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of the industry-related supply base.
- Proficient in production and supplier scheduling.
- Familiarity with supplier processes and capabilities.
- Able to provide guidance and training to peers as necessary.
- Proficient in MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic mathematical skills are required.
- Experience in rate-based or flow line (non-MRP) and job shop manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of operations, inventory management, MRP, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with visual management systems is a plus.
Travel & Work Requirements
Local commuting to the designated location is required on a regular basis.
