San Francisco, California, United States GE Aviation Full time
Job Overview
This position is part of the Commercial Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Mechanical Design team within GE Aviation's Engineering Division. The team focuses on the design and advancement of CMC components utilized in the High-Pressure-Turbine (HPT) and Combustor Module of the GE9X and LEAP Commercial Turbofan engines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive expertise in hot section design, CMC design, and module integration. Understand how the team's efforts contribute to current and future commercial programs, as well as the CMC Integrated Product Team (IPT). Stay informed about market trends and competitive landscape to differentiate products effectively.
  • Utilize sound judgment to propose innovative solutions to design and manufacturing challenges. Leverage on-the-job training and previous experience to address tasks, drawing on technical skills and analytical thinking to resolve issues.
  • Oversee project plans and action items aimed at achieving component durability objectives. Lead small teams to ensure deliverables are met while effectively communicating project timelines and delegating tasks as necessary.
  • Identify engineering requirements for manufacturing processes, considering manufacturing capabilities. Develop corrective actions for any manufacturing discrepancies, weighing the benefits and drawbacks of altering manufacturing processes against sound engineering justifications.
  • Communicate technical challenges and requirements to cross-functional teams. Utilize historical engine test data and fleet performance insights to drive significant engineering modifications. Gather feedback from peers and technical experts, documenting key findings with technical precision.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related STEM field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience, OR an advanced degree in the same fields with at least 4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with experience in guiding small teams.
  • Exceptional communication abilities and proficiency in technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on making informed, risk-based decisions.
  • Experience mentoring others in addressing complex engineering challenges.
  • Familiarity with hardware ownership, jet engine design, and combustor design.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Unigraphics NX), GD&T, and assembly stack-ups.
  • Experience with RCCAs/TOPS8Ds.
  • Background in composite design and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience with non-conformance reviews or Material Review Board (MRB) processes.

Additional Information
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to such information from the U.S. Government.
