Role Overview
The Principal Aero-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of aero-mechanical components for aircraft and associated systems (such as airframes, enclosures, and control surfaces). This role involves leading small, cross-disciplinary teams of engineers to create innovative designs while collaborating with various departments to ensure successful execution of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire development process of new UAV system components from initial concept to production.
- Enhance existing product lines through performance evaluations, documentation enhancements, and rigorous testing.
- Generate CAD models for both new and existing products.
- Develop comprehensive documentation packages, including drawings, procedures, and specifications for new and existing products.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Effectively communicate challenges and progress to leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in designing complex mechanical assemblies for UAVs or closely related fields.
- Proven experience in UAV or flight equipment design.
- Familiarity with composite part design and production-quality engineering drawings.
- Experience in dimensioning and tolerancing mechanical parts.
- Background in working with cross-functional teams, particularly in electrical and aircraft design.
- Proficiency in PDM systems, particularly SolidWorks (preferred).
- At least 2 years of experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing environment (preferred).
