As the Advanced Lead Engineer, you will be instrumental in spearheading and supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing durability and fleet support for CMC HPT components. Your role will involve taking ownership as an individual contributor to drive design and manufacturing improvements that align with program specifications. You will collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams, including mechanical design, analysis, materials engineering, data science, manufacturing, quality assurance, and program management. Implementing lessons learned from previous programs and new fleet insights into subsequent iterations of component design will be a critical aspect of your responsibilities. Additional duties may encompass supporting component delivery efforts, assisting with engine test assemblies, and enhancing component manufacturability through design and process modifications.

Your technical acumen will be vital in refining existing processes and designs, while also providing guidance to early-career engineers and manufacturing professionals. This role offers a significant degree of autonomy, necessitating ownership of work quality and active participation in setting priorities. As you execute your tasks, you will be expected to evaluate your capabilities and seek advice from your supervisor and technical mentors when needed.

Essential Duties

  • Acquire comprehensive knowledge of hot section design, CMC design, and module integration. Understand how your team's efforts contribute to our commercial and future programs, as well as the CMC Integrated Product Team (IPT). Stay informed about market trends, competition, and product differentiation.
  • Exercise sound judgment and propose alternative solutions to address design and manufacturing challenges. Utilize on-the-job training and prior experience to tackle tasks effectively. Access the necessary technical skills and analytical thinking to resolve issues, potentially consulting multiple internal sources beyond your immediate team.
  • Oversee project plans and action items for achieving component durability maturation goals. Lead small teams to ensure deliverables are met. Communicate schedule constraints and delegate tasks as necessary.
  • Define engineering requirements for manufacturing while considering manufacturing capabilities. Develop corrective actions for manufacturing discrepancies, weighing the pros and cons of altering manufacturing processes versus establishing sound engineering justifications. Leverage fleet insights, component testing history, and comparative analysis to determine the best corrective action strategy.
  • Communicate technical challenges and requirements to other teams. Utilize historical documentation of engine test results and fleet performance, design practices, and innovative analyses to drive effective engineering changes. Gather feedback from peers and technical experts, documenting significant findings with technical rigor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related STEM field from an accredited institution, along with 6+ years of relevant engineering experience, OR an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related STEM field from an accredited institution, accompanied by 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating project management expertise.

  • Familiarity with hardware ownership, jet engines, hot section design, and/or combustor design.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Unigraphics NX), GD&T, and assembly stack-ups.
  • Previous involvement with RCCAs/TOPS8Ds.
  • Experience in composite design and/or manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of non-conformance review or Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
