Role Summary

As an Advanced Combustion Research Specialist, you will join a premier team committed to pioneering state-of-the-art combustion technologies for aircraft engines and other advanced propulsion systems. Your role will involve conducting extensive research and development to advance combustion technologies that support the objectives of GE Aerospace.

Key Responsibilities:

In this position, you will collaborate with a diverse team to innovate next-generation combustion technologies aimed at achieving low-emission and sustainable aircraft engines. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with engineers and technicians to design and implement new experimental setups;
  • Conducting high-pressure and high-temperature combustion experiments and interpreting the results;
  • Partnering with fellow engineers to develop novel combustion models and analytical tools;
  • Leading pioneering research initiatives in high-speed propulsion;
  • Engaging in multidisciplinary teams to address the challenges associated with hypersonic flight;
  • Contributing to multi-generational technology programs to facilitate future design innovations;
  • Supporting the generation of intellectual property for GE Aerospace.

Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in combustion principles, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and combustion chemistry.
  • Experience in planning, executing, and analyzing combustion experiments or theoretical studies.
  • Ability to explore, model, and provide insights into intricate physical phenomena.
  • Strong teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication abilities, capable of engaging with various stakeholders, including senior leadership and clients.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Willingness to work from a designated office location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in aircraft engine combustion and emissions, including knowledge of fuel/air mixing systems, autoignition, flame dynamics in complex fuel mixtures, combustion kinetics, and design of combustion systems.
  • Published research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Familiarity with high-pressure, high-temperature combustion experimental setups and facilities.

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience, education, and skill set. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
