Position Overview

As a Mechanical Specialist in the Combustion Systems team, you will collaborate with a dedicated group of engineers and researchers to innovate and enhance combustion technologies for GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation products, including advanced gas turbines and jet engines.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will engage in the following tasks:
  • Assist in the design, construction, and instrumentation of complex testing setups.
  • Participate in experimental procedures utilizing a range of measurement instruments and methodologies in fluid dynamics and thermal analysis, such as thermocouples, RTDs, infrared imaging, flow measurement devices, and pressure sensors.
  • Source components and materials necessary for the assembly of prototype mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Construct intricate prototype models for evaluation in combustion testing environments.
  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of large-scale experimental setups that may involve high-pressure, elevated temperature, and substantial flow conditions.
  • Operate various systems including compressors, preheaters, and exhaust blowers.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory or research experience, or a Bachelor's degree in the same fields.
  • Proven ability to translate basic designs into high-quality hardware.
  • Fundamental understanding of flow measurement equipment, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with machine shop tools such as mills, grinders, and lathes.
  • Capability to interpret and utilize service documentation effectively.
  • Willingness to work primarily during the first shift, with potential requirements for second or third shifts as needed.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
  • Compliance with drug testing and background investigation as part of the hiring process.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Attributes
  • Direct experience with thermal or flow experimentation is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with occasional guidance and to innovate solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming data acquisition software, including LabVIEW.
  • Quick adaptability to new skills and technologies.
  • Certification as a Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with diverse teams, including PhDs, machinists, and suppliers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging capabilities.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in teamwork and collaboration.
