As a Mechanical Systems Research Specialist within the Mechanical Systems and Design Laboratory at the GE Vernova Advanced Research Center, you will engage in the design and development of cutting-edge mechanical components and systems applicable to a wide array of current and future GE products. These innovations will be utilized across GE Vernova's sectors, including steam, gas, nuclear, hydro, onshore, offshore, wind, grid solutions, power conversion, and hybrid systems.
The Advanced Research Center is at the forefront of exploring technologies such as carbon capture, hydrogen combustion, advanced manufacturing, next-generation nuclear solutions, supercritical CO2 systems, electric machines, and energy storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems, encompassing conceptualization, detailed design, validation, and implementation.
- Collaborate with various support functions and external partners to achieve project objectives.
- Prepare and engage in project and technical evaluations.
- Offer technical expertise to address challenges across the organization.
- Contribute to technology road mapping and competitive analysis to foster new technology initiatives.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative project proposals and initiatives.
- Stay informed about industry and academic advancements to ensure GE Vernova remains at the forefront of mechanical and mechatronic systems technology.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to enhance overall team capabilities and knowledge in specialized areas.
- Encourage a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Applied Mechanics focused on rotating machinery design, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Proficient in the design, analysis (including finite element analysis), and testing of structural components.
- Experienced in designing and fabricating mechanisms, including flexures.
- Skilled in systems dynamics modeling and model-based controller design using hardware platforms.
- Proven ability to conceive, develop, and execute experiments in component hardware, transitioning from component-level tests to full-scale solutions.
- Proficient in 3D solid modeling software (e.g., NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo) and finite element analysis tools.
- Familiar with product design constraints, manufacturing techniques, and material processing in turbomachinery and electrical machines.
- Experience in conceptual design and validation of full-scale rotating machinery incorporating innovative technologies.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills in a global team setting.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in system modeling that integrates fluid, thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analyses.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques used in rotating components.
- Experience in rotating machine design within the power generation, propulsion, or oil and gas industries.
- Familiarity with novel materials and their modeling.
- Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to collaborate across functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to take ownership of challenges and drive solutions.
