As a Thermal Management Systems Research Engineer, you will engage in both independent and collaborative projects aimed at designing and validating energy and thermal management systems. Your role will encompass the development of thermal management components, multiphysics computational modeling, and the analysis of systems and systems-of-systems. You will contribute to the design and enhancement of thermal components for aircraft systems, avionics, propulsion, and power generation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize your expertise in fluid dynamics and heat transfer to devise innovative strategies for managing thermal loads in intricate systems, including aerospace applications and renewable energy technologies.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of researchers, engineers, and external partners to innovate and advance the next generation of thermal management technologies.
  • Employ your skills in modeling, simulation, and experimentation to characterize and validate new energy and thermal management components and systems.
  • Build and nurture an external network of collaborators across academia, government, and industry.
  • Contribute to the intellectual property portfolio by patenting your inventions and publishing findings in reputable conferences and journals.
Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related engineering field, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Proven ability to analyze and model complex physical phenomena.
  • Solid understanding of fluid mechanics and heat transfer principles as they apply to thermal management.
  • Familiarity with thermal/energy management systems and component development.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Knowledge of air-breathing propulsion, space power, and high-speed flight vehicles.
  • Experience in system modeling and systems-of-systems modeling.
  • Proficiency in engineering modeling languages such as EES, Matlab, Python, or Fortran.
  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics tools like Fluent or CFX.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical concepts with external stakeholders and convert ideas into actionable programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with senior leaders and clients effectively.
  • Proven interpersonal skills to inspire excellence and drive change.
  • Ability to influence across various functions and levels within a team environment.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and meet project deadlines.
