Role Summary:
As a Senior Metallurgy Researcher, you will play a crucial role in guiding technical direction and executing research related to the development of new alloys, optimizing processing and properties, quantifying microstructures, and conducting root cause analyses for manufacturing enhancements. Your primary focus will be on providing expert leadership in projects that explore the relationships between alloy composition, microstructure, processing, and performance. Join us in shaping the materials that will drive the future of energy transition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in research within a collaborative team setting, focusing on new alloy development, process and property optimization, and metallurgy-related service and repair tasks for diverse metallic material systems.
  • Contribute to technology road mapping and competitive analysis to propel new technology initiatives.
  • Assist in the formulation, cultivation, and execution of government contracts.
  • Draft program proposals for external agencies that align with GE Vernova's technology strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise to address challenges across the GE Vernova organization.
  • Collaborate with various organizations, including external agencies, GE business units, and academic institutions, on project definition, technical strategies, and execution.
  • Communicate project advancements internally and externally through presentations, reports, and publications to GE Vernova Research, GE business units, senior leadership, government entities, and professional organizations.
  • Facilitate technical development within the organization through effective mentoring and coaching.
  • Promote a multidisciplinary and inclusive team culture.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with EHS guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Metallurgy, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient in advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD) to analyze the structure, processing, and performance relationships of metallic materials, including Ni-superalloys, Co alloys, Titanium alloys, and Refractory alloy systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills in a global team environment.
  • Able to collaborate across all functions and levels as part of a cohesive team.
  • Willingness and adaptability to contribute to projects across a diverse metallurgy portfolio, including but not limited to Al, Ti, Fe, Ni, Co, and refractory-based materials.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Experience in the metallurgy of high-temperature structural materials and those produced through additive manufacturing, including heat treatment optimization and understanding of property-microstructure-mechanical performance relationships.
  • Familiarity with high-resolution characterization techniques (such as TEM) in the context of materials development for industrial research and development projects.
  • Expertise in applying machine learning and AI-driven tools to achieve materials-focused outcomes.
  • Experience leading programs funded by government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in multidisciplinary teams within a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Strong record of patents, presentations, and publications.
