Summary

­­­­­­­­­­­The Vice President of Human Resources, also known as the regional HR Business Partner, is tasked with aligning organizational objectives with the workforce and management within specified business units. This role cultivates partnerships across the HR spectrum to provide value-added services to management and employees that mirror the organization's business goals. The HRBP maintains a robust understanding of the business unit's financial standing, strategic plans, culture, and competitive landscape. This position serves as the primary HR representative for American President Lines, LLC and its associated entities in North America, reporting functionally to the Chief People Officer for North America. The role is supported by centralized centers of excellence and oversees a geographically diverse workforce in the maritime shipping sector, which includes both represented and non-represented employees.

Responsibilities

• Assess and anticipate HR-related needs; analyze workforce trends and metrics to formulate recommendations, solutions, programs, and policies.
• Actively contribute to the organizational budget process.
• Collaborate with HR and cross-functional stakeholders within a shared service model.
• Provide guidance and insights related to talent acquisition, development, performance management, retention, engagement, training, restructuring, workforce planning, and succession planning.
• Influence and recommend Labor Relations strategies, clearly defining the HR role in the labor relations process, and executing in coordination with the CHRO and shared services.
• Partner with management to identify staffing needs and collaborate with Talent Acquisition to implement recruitment strategies.

• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of legal requirements pertinent to daily employee management, minimizing legal risks and ensuring compliance with regulations.

• Collaborate with the legal department as necessary. Provide guidance and interpretation of HR policies.
• Work closely with management and employees to enhance work relationships, boost morale, and improve productivity and retention. Provide daily performance management support to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
• Identify training needs for business units and individual management development requirements. Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure effectiveness. Follow up to confirm training objectives are achieved.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field.
• Juris Doctorate (JD) with a focus on employment law is preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in Human Resources, including at least 5 years in an HRBP or HR Generalist role within a Union workforce.
• Demonstrated knowledge of employment law at both Federal and State levels.
• Strong oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience presenting at the executive level, with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
• Preferred experience in the transportation, logistics, or maritime shipping sectors.
