Position Overview

The Vice President of Operations plays a crucial role within the leadership framework of Communities in Schools of Tennessee. This executive position is responsible for guiding an operations team that empowers program managers to effectively support students in their educational journeys.

The Vice President also acts as the chief human resources strategist for the organization, managing a dedicated team of professionals and consultants specializing in finance, information technology, general operations, risk management, and benefits administration.

This role is pivotal in overseeing the operations of a dynamic organization with a budget nearing $12 million and a workforce of 80 staff members across multiple locations, all dedicated to serving over 15,000 students and their families.

Key Responsibilities
The Vice President of Operations is a member of the senior leadership team, leading all human resources initiatives and managing a specialized team focused on finance, risk management, and operational efficiency.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Policy Development: Design and implement comprehensive organizational policies and strategies that support program expansion and operational excellence in collaboration with the CEO and other leaders.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Take proactive measures to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Operational Systems: Build and maintain robust human resources, finance, information technology, and risk management systems to enable staff to concentrate on their primary responsibilities.
  • Human Resources Leadership: Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, professional development, and employee engagement for a statewide team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with board members, peers, and team members to enhance organizational operations and team dynamics.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Collaborate with organizational leaders to propose and implement strategies that enhance operational effectiveness and align with the organization’s strategic goals.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in business or a related field; a relevant Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience in the public sector, with at least 3 years focused on human resources.
