Position Overview

About Us: Meals on Wheels Orange County is dedicated to providing essential nutrition and supportive services to vulnerable older adults in the region. Our mission focuses on alleviating hunger and combating isolation among seniors through nutritious meal delivery, friendly visits, and safety checks, while also offering support to families through day services.

Location: Anaheim, CA

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Compensation: $24.00 per hour (Compensation will be determined based on various factors including geographic location, skills, education, and experience)

Role Summary: Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Activities Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of individual and group activity programs aimed at enhancing participants' physical and emotional well-being, as well as preventing further mental or physical decline. The Activities Coordinator collaborates as an integral member of the Multi-Disciplinary team, ensuring that activities foster social interaction, engagement, and a sense of community among participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute all job functions in alignment with Meals on Wheels OC ADS Administrative policies and compliance guidelines.
  • Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive activity program tailored to meet the interests and needs of participants, enhancing their quality of life.
  • Research and introduce innovative program ideas, incorporating feedback and suggestions from participants.
  • Facilitate group activities that connect participants with the community and current events, promoting reality orientation.
  • Organize activities that are culturally diverse and appropriate for adults, ensuring participants feel accomplished.
  • Coordinate on-site events and activities.
  • Assess individual participant needs and interests to create personalized activity plans as part of their care strategy.
  • Conduct activity assessments, including initial, annual, and semi-annual evaluations, along with quarterly progress documentation.
  • Prepare and manage the monthly activity calendar, scheduling events in advance and displaying the calendar prominently.
  • Supervise volunteers assisting with activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Program Director or Registered Nurse.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a social, recreational, or educational setting.
  • Completion of an accredited Activity Leader Course (minimum 36 hours) specifically designed for Activity Coordinators working with seniors or adults with disabilities, recognized for certification under licensing regulations.
  • Current certification in CPR and first aid is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to connect with older adults and sensitivity to their needs is required.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer physical examination and tuberculosis clearance is necessary.
  • A valid California driver's license and automobile insurance are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent stationary positioning and movement between locations.
  • Regular operation of equipment, computers, or tools.
  • Frequent extension of body, arms, or hands to perform essential duties.
  • Occasional ascending/descending and positioning as needed for job functions.
  • Constant communication and information exchange.
  • Ability to perceive objects over moderate or long distances, with or without accommodation.
  • Occasional differentiation of odors.
  • Occasional lifting and transporting of objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
