Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Activities Coordinator is responsible for designing, executing, and overseeing both individual and group activity programs that enhance participants' physical and emotional health while preventing further decline. This role involves active collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to create meaningful experiences that foster social connections and a sense of community among participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all job functions are performed in compliance with Meals on Wheels OC's administrative policies and ethical standards.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive activity program tailored to meet the interests and needs of participants, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
  • Research and introduce innovative program ideas, incorporating feedback and suggestions from participants.
  • Facilitate group activities that connect participants with their community and current events, promoting engagement and reality orientation.
  • Organize activities that are culturally diverse and designed to ensure participants experience success and fulfillment.
  • Plan and coordinate on-site events and activities.
  • Assess individual participant needs and interests to create personalized activity plans as part of the overall care strategy.
  • Conduct activity assessments and maintain accurate records, including initial evaluations, annual reviews, and quarterly progress notes.
  • Prepare and distribute a monthly activity calendar, ensuring that planned events are scheduled in advance.
  • Supervise volunteers assisting with activities, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Program Director or Registered Nurse.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a social, recreational, or educational setting.
  • Completion of an accredited Activity Leader Course (minimum 36 hours) specifically designed for those working with seniors or adults with disabilities.
  • Current certification in CPR and first aid is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with older adults, demonstrating sensitivity to their needs.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer physical examination and tuberculosis clearance.
  • A valid driver's license and automobile insurance are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain stationary and move around various locations frequently.
  • Proficient in operating equipment and utilizing computers or tools.
  • Capable of extending arms or hands to perform essential duties.
  • Ability to ascend and descend as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Constantly communicates and exchanges information accurately.
  • Frequently perceives objects at varying distances.
  • Occasionally distinguishes differences in intensity or quality of odors.
  • May need to move and position objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
