Role Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse (RN), your responsibilities will include conducting patient evaluations, formulating care plans, and executing and assessing care for infants. Collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team, you will ensure the safe and precise delivery of care.

Your duties will encompass:

  • Attending deliveries and performing stabilization and admission assessments for newborns.
  • Developing care plans, including discharge strategies, adjusting them based on patient responses, and regularly reviewing their effectiveness.
  • Conducting ongoing assessments of infants and communicating any changes to the Nurse Practitioner or Neonatologist.
  • Administering medications and performing treatments in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Assisting transport teams in the stabilization of infants and providing necessary documentation for transfers.
  • Offering support and educational resources to families regarding homecare, treatments, adoption, and support groups.
  • Assisting in high-risk deliveries and supporting the Nurse Practitioner during resuscitation efforts.
  • Appropriately delegating tasks to non-licensed staff in line with practice standards.
Required Qualifications

Experience

A minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) is required, with a preference for experience in an acute care environment.

Education

An Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required, while a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

A current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or a Compact Registered Nursing License is necessary. If you hold a Compact License, a Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required as per St. David's Healthcare policy.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is also required as per St. David's Healthcare policy.

Certification as a Registered Nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC) is preferred.

Completion of the S.T.A.B.L.E. Neonatal Education Program Certification is preferred.
