Summary/Objective:

In partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County (CCE) and their Community Assets Resiliency Education (CARE) Program, the Health Educator provides evidence-based programing to fulfill objectives outlined in the New York State Department of Health (DOH) Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Grant. The CARE Program works with youth ages 10-13 and guides them toward successful futures by equipping hem with essential life skills such as problem-solving, decision making, and the development of healthy behaviors. The Health Educator incorporates trauma-informed and evidence and researched-based curriculum to assist in the sexual risk avoidance education.

Essential Functions:

1. Delivers evidence-based programming with fidelity to youth in a variety of settings (up to 140 youth annually)

2. Provides weekly meetings (up to 25 youth/group) in a variety of settings across a nine (9) month period

3. Maintains strong partnerships and collaborates with other CHJC Programs and School Districts to identify youth/groups of youth for sexual risk avoidance education

4. Tracks enrollments and attendance of youth participants

5. Conducts community outreach and education

6. Completes required reporting accurately and timely

7. Provides assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services, or other essential support services identified

8. Communicates with CCE about program activities, progress, and outcomes

Special Requirements:

Work Environment: Office and classroom environment that will require occasional travel to events, conferences and/or meetings. Works in an office setting with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.

Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of related office equipment including personal computers and printers, audio-visual equipment, telephone systems, copiers, fax machines, etc.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push/pull, climb, bend, and stoop. Must be able to perform fine motor skills, read, and type. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time, traditional hours required along with some non-traditional hours including nights and weekends. This position requires you to work on-site, and offsite.

Travel:

Travel is required throughout Jefferson County.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in health education or health-related field. Ability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth in a variety of settings on reproductive health topics such as reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV/AIDS. Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing in their role. Knowledge of or experience with priority populations to be served and local community.

Strong organizational abilities and office skills are essential for this position. This person must also have excellent people skills and be a team player. Must be able to work with privileged information in an unbiased and ethical manner. Ability to work with diverse populations. Must demonstrate effective and excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent time-management skills. Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to be clear, courteous, and professional. Able to react to change productively and handle other duties as assigned.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Must maintain privacy of confidential information. Successful completion of routine pre-employment requirements as mandated by the New York State Department of Health, Office of Mental Health, and Office of Children and Family Services, along with ongoing clearances and exclusion checks. These requirements are to include employment health requirements, reference checks, criminal background checks/fingerprinting, State Central Registry clearance and eligibility to work in the United States. A valid NYS driver's license is required. Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Privacy Security, and Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Training and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR will be required following date of hire. Must successfully complete specific training to deliver identified evidence-based programming.

Salary Description

Starting at $42,000
