Role Overview:
In the capacity of our School Psychologist, you will flourish within our collaborative and fulfilling Deafblind Program. You will work in an environment where student needs are prioritized, and your efforts will have a significant global influence.
As an integral member of our team, your responsibilities will include providing direct psychotherapeutic counseling, both individually and in groups, as well as conducting diagnostic assessments for students who are blind, visually impaired, Deafblind, or multiply impaired.
Your role will encompass offering in-service training on clinical matters to program staff, engaging with families of enrolled students, delivering case management services, designing tailored behavior management strategies, providing crisis intervention in educational settings, and offering ongoing support and consultation regarding behavioral challenges to program personnel. Additionally, you will facilitate or coordinate psycho-diagnostic evaluations for students on a regular basis.
You will collaborate with a distinctive interdisciplinary team that delivers educational, vocational, and residential services.
Your Impact Will Include:
- Participating as a vital member of the interdisciplinary evaluation team and serving as a liaison between Perkins and external mental health professionals.
- Providing crisis intervention to students as necessary and assisting in referrals to specialists; offering continuous consultation to program staff.
- Developing and implementing individualized behavior management programs and ensuring consistent application across relevant individuals.
- Consulting with families on approved behavior management strategies.
- Contributing to research initiatives related to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, Deafblind, and multiply impaired.
- Creating or modifying assessment tools for use with individuals with visual impairments.
- Engaging in program meetings, case reviews, and IEP meetings, while preparing reports on student progress and needs.
- Delivering formal and informal training sessions for staff members.
- Participating in the evaluation and screening of individuals referred for placement and collaborating on interdisciplinary teams for admissions and future programming.
- Making professional contributions to the field through workshops, conference presentations, research, and publications in professional journals.
- Providing mentorship and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students during field placements.
- Documenting observations and assessments of students and maintaining accurate records.
- Collecting and compiling statistical data regarding service delivery as required.
Qualifications:
- A Master's Degree from a National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) accredited institution in school psychology is required; Massachusetts DESE Certification as a School Psychologist is mandatory, along with three years of experience in the field.
