The Clement C. Maxwell Library is open an average of 87 hours each week during the academic year. It is a busy, dynamic place serving all BSU students, faculty, staff, researchers from across the country and world, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities. Library Services is dedicated to meeting the needs of its communities, updating its service models, renewing the knowledge and skills of librarians and staff, deploying new technologies, and enhancing user experiences. Position Summary

The Maxwell Library at Bridgewater State University seeks a motivated and collaborative full-time Library Assistant III (LA III) who reports to the Manager of Access Services and collaborates with colleagues in the Access Services Department to assist patrons at the service desk, over the phone, and via online chat. The LA III will also be cross-trained to provide other crucial library services, including basic reference support and technology support. Responsibilities

Serve patrons at our busy service point in all library-related inquiries. Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds. Perform access services tasks and circulation duties, including checking library materials in and out, answering phones, and processing items on-hold for patrons. Perform start-up or closing tasks for specific shifts. Answer basic reference and technology questions. Perform inventory control tasks, including re-shelving materials and assisting with weeding of materials. Assist patrons in using the library catalog and online databases. Assist with recruitment, supervision, and training of student workers. Create book and resource displays within the library. Participate in library outreach efforts. Gather, organize, and prepare monthly library service statistics. Attend workshops and educational opportunities to enhance job knowledge. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Two years’ experience as a library assistant in an academic or public library, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity. General knowledge of library services and workflows. Commitment to customer service excellence and enhancing an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to deal tactfully with others and provide effective customer service. General knowledge of computers and basic skills with Office 365 or other productivity software. Experience using library systems and equipment typically found in libraries. Ability to stand for prolonged periods and push heavy book carts (up to 40lbs). Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or higher. Experience answering library reference questions. Knowledge of library research and general library services. Experience troubleshooting desktop computers and software. Experience documenting policies and workflows. Experience training others in processes and workflows. Special Conditions for Eligibility
