Everett, United States Zap Energy Full time $100,000 - $150,000
Job DescriptionJob Description

The planet urgently needs safe, reliable, zero-carbon energy without waste. Nuclear fusion can address the scale of this problem, but for decades, existing fusion approaches have not proven a net positive energy gain. Zap Energy has rethought the fundamental technology of fusion. As the only company using sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch, we present potentially the fastest path to commercially available fusion energy.

We’re looking for a motivated and experienced Financial Analyst with a strong background in accounting, budgeting & forecasting, and fixed asset management to join our cause. Your keen eye for detail and exceptional analytical skills will support the company’s finance and accounting functions. Reporting to the Financial Planning Manager and supporting the Accounting Manager, you will play a key role in the Finance & Accounting team, contributing to company growth and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Partner with company leaders to develop and manage annual department and project-level budgets, including both labor and non-labor components.
  • Analyze financial forecasts, conducting routine variance analysis and updates to ensure accurate forecasting and budgeting alignment.
  • Provide financial guidance and recommendations to budget owners and stakeholders, ensuring optimal resource allocation and financial performance.

Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the company’s fixed/capital asset process, including capital determination decisions, managing depreciation and amortization, and ensuring accurate financial reporting of fixed assets.

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the cost structure of capital projects, providing financial support and guidance to project leads.

  • Collaborate with procurement to validate purchase order costs, monitor payment timings, and ensure accurate accounting treatment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial reporting information in presentation and memo formats for senior management.

  • Support financial and accounting software implementations to streamline processes and improve data integrity.

  • Act as a liaison between the Finance & Accounting team and other departments, facilitating clear communication and collaboration.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related analytical field.

  • 5-8 years of experience in financial analysis roles, with a strong emphasis on accounting, budgeting & forecasting, and fixed asset management.

  • Proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions for financial analysis.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage and analyze large data sets while maintaining organization and data integrity.

  • Demonstrated expertise in applying financial analysis acumen and accounting principles in a corporate environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data modeling and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, etc.

  • Experience in a start-up or rapidly growing company environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to interpret and analyze financial statements.

This is a full-time onsite position located at our Everett, WA headquarters.

Benefits of joining Zap Energy: While doing meaningful work is rewarding in itself, we also offer the following programs and benefits for all employees:

  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Premium medical / dental / vision insurance
  • Flexible vacation and paid company holidays

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $100K-150K. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and the actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications.  The range is published in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.
