The Camp DREAM Development Manager is part of both DREAM's Development and Camp DREAM teams. The Manager's primary role is to raise funds to support both the operations and physical development of the Camp DREAM adventure base. Related responsibilities include managing rentals and volunteer crews, leading the creation of new program areas and facilities, conducting maintenance and light carpentry, and supporting programming.

Objectives of the Volunteer Recruiter and Benefits Manager:

Primary role:

  • Establish and grow revenue streams dedicated to Camp operations, with the goal of making Camp DREAM a financially sustainable operation. 
    • Year 1 target is to cover the cost of the new position with $66,878 in new revenue by following a defined fundraising plan.
  • Advance and secure funding for Camp capital projects.
    • Year 1 target is to complete building projects that are already funded and/or committed to.
      • Coordinate phases of new development projects, including permits, contractors, and supply acquisition.
    • Year 2 target is to pursue 10 potential sources of capital funding.
  • Drive the maintenance and development of the property.
    • Coordinate corporate and individual volunteer groups, grow volunteer participation, and pursue partnerships (NCCC, VYCC, etc.).
      • Year 1: Increase corporate groups.
    • Regularly assess and address maintenance needs, including scheduling technicians:
      • Year 1: Build on and implement a comprehensive management plan.


Other responsibilities:

  • Assist with programming including, but not limited to:
    • Helping staff winter adventure trips
    • Planning and running retreats, adventure days, and overnights
    • Interviewing SummerCorps members
    • Providing backup coverage for staff during the summer sessions
    • Coordinating transportation to and from Camp for campers in Vermont, Philadelphia, and Boston.
    • Supporting other administrivia as time/capacity permits.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: 

  • At least three years of fundraising experience, as well as exposure to basic carpentry and facilities' maintenance.
    • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • A passion for supporting your own and others’ ongoing work around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage networks and interpersonal skills to influence outcomes.
  • Excitement and passion around working in support of youth access to mentoring and developmental relationships. 
  • Commitment to the mission of DREAM.
  • Desire to enhance existing skills and develop new skills necessary for the role.
  • Elevated awareness of issues of social equity and social justice with a commitment to continued learning as it relates to serving and elevating diverse communities in a manner that is respectful and aware. 
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to our DREAM locations in support of fundraising and other camp-related efforts.
  • Current driver’s license, proof of insurance, and clean driving record.
  • Previous experience working at a youth-centered camp.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and set priorities while giving consideration to those who you are serving, your fellow team members, the organization, and the self.


Type of work/expected commitment: 

This is a full time, salaried, overtime exempt position. The position will average 35-45 hours per week with relatively flexible weekday hours and occasional weekend events over the course of the year. Participation and leadership at regular multi-day employee retreats or multi-day out of area travel (to fulfill role responsibilities) are required. 


Compensation:

Total compensation value: upwards of $65,000 which includes: 

  • Salary range commensurate of experience ($52,000), overtime non-exempt w/ overtime rate established based on salary offered
  • Group Medical Insurance for the employee paid at 100% of cost the plan (no probationary period - plan is based on our current group offering in Vermont - a “bronze” plan level) 
  • five weeks (25 work days) paid time off (PTO) inclusive of vacation, sick and personal days;
  • eight (8) paid holidays (including six (6) single days, a winter break from December 24-January 1 and a November break);

Work environment:  This position operates in multiple spaces. The spaces included will often be an indoor environment, in both shared and remote workspaces. You will often travel to other regions, be present on-site with active children and volunteers, within the housing communities we serve, or on campus at the colleges we are partnered with. This role routinely uses computers, phones, and a variety of other software (design, databases, organization) for communications, systems, and program accountability.


Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee/member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: 

  • This position requires comfort working in outdoor environments, regardless of the weather.  This position is very active and frequently requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee/member is regularly required to communicate with individuals who talk and hear.  
  • The employee/member may occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee/member is regularly required to observe and comprehend using vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Travel:  You will be expected to travel regularly to other DREAM regions in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, and to be able to work from a variety of spaces and situations. This travel is intended to support, understand, and meaningfully connect with our regional and site-based teams regarding volunteer recruitment.
